Bonded clutch friction plates, Suit Norton clutches pre AMC (approx 1934 to 1956) and Norton, AJS, Matchless with AMC gearbox (1957+ until approx 1962), (tangs go out). Surflex Nortons had 5 friction plates and 6 steel plates. These have the friction material bonded to the surface. Therefore these plates are slightly thicker than the originals. On my 1954 ES2 five of these replacement plates and six steel plates will not fit into the clutch housing and leave enough adjustment. The original had friction pads inserted into holes in the plate. Note: If you try to remake inserts like the originals remember that the original inserts contained asbestos. Original Part No: 3346; A2/393; 040391; Clutch friction plate with inserts suits all models 1932- 1961? Suits AJS, Matchless 1957- 1961?
